EV·ENGINESTART THE SIMULATOR

Muscle V8 engine sound

The burble is the entire point, and it comes from one number. Firing unevenness is set to 38, roughly six times the V10 and twelve times the V12. On a crossplane crank the cylinders fire at uneven intervals, which puts energy below the firing frequency. The ear hears that as the lope.

Ten seconds from a standing start. The launch, the gearbox working up through the ratios, then the overrun as the throttle closes. Driven by the same gearbox model the simulator runs, so the shift points are the ones you would hear in the car.

Everything else supports it. Bass runs at 128, the highest of any car here. Pipe length is 150, the longest road-car exhaust on the site, which places the comb resonance low and lets each pulse ring on. Brightness is held down at 85, the lowest outside the diesel, so nothing bright competes with the bottom end.

The gearing is deliberately lazy. Four ratios, a 6,200 redline, and a shift point at 2,900 rpm, which is the second earliest here. It changes up while the engine still has plenty left, then leans on torque. In the car it feels unhurried in a way none of the European engines do.

Overrun pops at 35 and drive at 115 give the lift-off some crack without tipping into the rally preset’s territory. The saturation from that drive value is also part of the weight: a clean V8 sounds smaller than a slightly dirty one.

Choose it for slow roads. It works at speeds where the high-revving engines are still waiting for something to happen.

Four ratios spread wide. First runs to nearly 59 km/h at the redline, and top gives 36 km/h per 1000 rpm, so 100 km/h sits near 2,800 rpm. It is almost never revving hard, and that is the correct impression to leave.
