Turbo hot hatch sound
Take the plain two-litre four on this site and turbocharge it. That is what this preset is, and comparing the two number by number is the clearest way here to hear what forced induction does to a sound: pops from 8 to 70, drive from 95 to 130, sub from 43 to 66.
Ten seconds from a standing start. The launch, the gearbox working up through the ratios, then the overrun as the throttle closes. Driven by the same gearbox model the simulator runs, so the shift points are the ones you would hear in the car.
Overrun pops go from 8 to 70. That is the headline: a modern turbocharged hot hatch crackles on every lift, partly by design, and it is the first thing anyone notices. Drive rises from 95 to 130, adding saturation under load, and noise from 100 to 130.
The sub oscillator jumps from 43 to 66. A turbo fills in the bottom end that a naturally aspirated engine of the same size does not have, and the sub is where that weight lives. Brightness rises to 125 as well, so it gains at both ends.
Unevenness stays low at 14. Turbocharging does not change the firing order, and building in a lope here would be describing a different engine.
The gearing gains a ratio, six against five, and the shift point moves up from 3,100 to 3,900 rpm with a 7,000 redline. It works harder and holds gears longer, which is what a car with this much mid-range encourages.
Comb feedback of 60 with a shorter pipe at 95 gives the resonant edge of an aftermarket exhaust. It is the most contemporary sound on the site.
Six ratios reaching 41 km/h per 1000 rpm put 100 km/h near 2,440 rpm, relaxed but close enough to the mid-range that a small lift produces a crackle. Most of what is enjoyable about this one happens between 60 and 100 km/h.
