V10 engine sound
Ten cylinders firing five times a revolution, all the way to 8,500 rpm. That combination is why a V10 screams where a V8 shouts: five firing events per rev put the dominant order high enough that by 7,000 rpm the fundamental sits in the part of the spectrum the ear reads as pitch rather than as thump.
Ten seconds from a standing start. The launch, the gearbox working up through the ratios, then the overrun as the throttle closes. Driven by the same gearbox model the simulator runs, so the shift points are the ones you would hear in the car.
The preset leans into that. Brightness is set to 150, the highest of any car in the library, which lifts the orders above the first and keeps them audible through the whole sweep. Bass is held down at 85 against the V12’s 115, so nothing muddies the top end.
Firing unevenness is 6 and jitter is 6, both near the floor. Ten cylinders on a shared crank fire close to evenly, and the character here is precision rather than lumpiness. Compare the muscle V8 at 38 to hear what unevenness does.
It shifts at 4,600 rpm, higher than anything else on the site, and runs seven ratios. In the car that means it lives in the upper half of the rev range and stays there. Pull away hard and it will hold second past 60 km/h.
The exhaust model is short: pipe length 75, against 150 on the muscle V8. A short pipe puts the comb resonance high and keeps the decay quick, so the overrun cracks rather than burbles. Overrun pops sit at 30, enough to punctuate a lift without turning the car into a rally special.
Best on a road where you can hold a gear. In town it spends its life below 3,000 rpm, which is the one place this engine has nothing to say.
